How to Create a Productive Study Environment

Creating a study environment that suits your needs is an essential step to help you maximize your studying and productivity. In this blog post, I'll be highlighting some of the ways you can create a productive study environment that will help ensure academic success!

  1. Find the right location- Try finding a study space in the house that suits your needs. I recommend a space that is free of distractions and noises. This could be a spare room or a corner in your bedroom. If you can't find an entirely noise-free area try opting for some earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones.

  2. Remove any distractions- Turn off your phone and try to close any tabs on your laptop that are distracting.

  3. Give your space a declutter- As a student, you probably have a lot of things on your mind. Your space should help relax you. A cluttered workspace will only add to your stress. So when possible, try to organize your space and declutter, keeping only the things that you know you will need and that will benefit you. If possible and needed, consider purchasing shelves or desk organizers to help maintain organization.

  4. Give yourself proper lighting- This is very important! Long hours spent studying can lead to eye strain. Try placing your desk in front of a window as this will give you plenty of natural light. If this isn't possible, try adding a lamp or study light near your desk to ensure you have enough light. Pro-tip, also ensure you have a comfortable chair and that your laptop is at eye level, if it isn't try propping it up on a few textbooks to bring it to eye level. This will also help reduce eye strain.

  5. Customize your environment- You will most likely be spending several hours at a time in your study space so try to personalize it! Add things that bring you joy and that will boost your mood. You can print out or simply write down your favourite quotes and stick them on the wall. Add pictures or anything else that you like. To give you an example, I like to add small potted plants, I find it brings colour to the room. Have fun with it and make the space your own!

Well, there you have it! My top 5 tips to creating a productive study environment that will help bring you academic motivation and student success. A good study space will uplift your mood and motivate you to study. It'll also help increase your concentration and focus. Most importantly, do what works for you and watch how a nice study environment can optimize your productivity and overall learning.
